WebIn 1966 Victor Meyer described the successful treatment of two people with OCD by what would now be considered as the forerunner of modern day CBT treatments by changing cognitions and blocking compulsive rituals (Meyer, 1966). WebCBT and other therapies, even exposure therapy, can be thought of in psychoanalytic terms, largely through ego psychology (e.g. Anna Freud). By thinking of CBT treatments as "ego supportive" work conducted before the "ego modifying" work of psychoanalysis, many forms of therapy can become less antagonistic toward one another.
